Dallas Video Fest, Fantastic Fest and the Austin Film Festival, and the Lonestar Film Festival will host independent filmmakers from around the world this fall. The countries represented include many Asian, Latin American and Middle Eastern and European.

Artistic director Bart Weiss says there is no rubric when it comes to choosing foreign films for Dallas Video Fest. For Weiss, curating is about “what moves you.”

“If there is something special about [the film] then it’s really obvious,” Weiss says.

But what is obvious to curators like Weiss, obvious to the general public or distribution companies looking for the next best foreign film?

CafeConCine.com has opened up the survey below to understand what you, the reader and foreign-film lover, know about this genre. There are no right or wrong answers. Please answer honestly, as the answers will help the editor ask the experts questions the audience wants to know. CafeConCine.com will continue to attend Texas film festivals like Dallas Video Fest, Austin Film Festival and the Lone Star Film Festival, where international films are screened. Many of the films’ directors and talent will be present to engage in this discussion.
